What To Expect as an RCFE Certified Administrator

Certified senior living administrators usually have an RCFE administrator certification and are typically qualified to assist elderly patients with the health care services they may require and help them with their everyday needs. Here is what you should know about the position.
RCFE certification is often required in order to hold the position of administrator in a residential care facility for the elderly in California. According to regulation 87405, in order to become certified, you must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and have the ability to provide the necessary care and supervision requirements set by the regulation. Some training programs may require that you have a bachelor’s degree.
If you are an individual with an RCFE administrator certification, you may work in an office setting where you are in continuous communication with your staff. Assistant administrators may be on hand to handle more of the day-to-day tasks, reporting any problems to you as the administrator. As an assisted living administrator, you may be in charge of managing, outlining and coordinating services for the elderly. Aging adults at your facility may need help with basic tasks such as bathing, taking medication and eating.

The typical median salary of assisted living administrators, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report, is $94,500 annually. The projected growth for medical and health services managers, like assisted living administrators, is predicted to be around 17 percent.

An RCFE certification may open doors to a variety of job opportunities. Many certified administrators work as executive directors, resident service directors, assisted living managers, associate executive directors or residential care facility administrators. Although you may have the opportunity for some hands-on work with elderly individuals, your main duties will more likely include creating schedules, managing staff, overseeing budgeting, training employees, coordinating care plans and other administrative duties.
