Steps to Getting RCFE Certified

If you’re interested in working in a senior housing facility, it’s a good idea to get your Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, or RCFE, certification. Being certified means you will receive specialized knowledge which will help you become more successful in your field and it can also increase your chances of getting hired. You can generally get certified in a couple of months, and you can even take some RCFE online training to speed up the process. Read below for more information.

Pre-qualifications
There are a few required pre-qualifications. You need to be at least 21 years old and you need to have completed high school or else possess your GED. You also need to have the knowledge and ability to care and supervise others.

Classes

You need to take 80 hours of certified RCFE classes. Up to 20 hours can include certified RCFE online training classes which can be completed at your convenience. The remaining 60 hours of classes need to be taken in person by a certified course instructor.

Examination
After completing all of the necessary course work you can apply to take the state examination.

You must take the test within sixty (60) days of completing your courses and score at least 70% in order to pass and apply for your certificate.
